Mainstream - very popular, familiar to the masses. common, usual or conventional.
large circulation and readership figures.
Examples - Kerrang!, NME, Q.

Niche - targets a small, specific portion of the population. not hugely popular.
small circulation and readership figures in relation to mainstream magazines.
Examples - Guitar & Bass.
